Buffalo Commercial Bank joins the SME Finance Forum to support poverty reduction

Washington D.C., January 13, 2021 - Buffalo Commercial Bank joins the SME Finance Forum as the newest member of our global membership network. Our members are SME financing experts from 80+ countries who share the common goal of expanding access to finance to small businesses worldwide through knowledge exchange and innovation.

“40 percent of small and medium businesses worldwide struggle to get access to the credit and capital that they need to grow their enterprises. We are delighted to welcome Buffalo Commercial Bank to our network of over 230 member institutions who are working to eliminate the finance gap for SMEs,” said Matthew Gamser, CEO of the SME Finance Forum.

Buffalo Commercial Bank (BCB) is one of the pioneers in the banking industry in the Republic of South Sudan. BCB, fully owned by South Sudanese, started its operations from Juba, the seat and capital of the Republic of South Sudan in February 2008. It is licensed by the Central Bank of South Sudan (CBSS). BCB offers a variety of accounts, as well as a complete suite of commercial bank services. The bank aims to contribute to the national economy by providing complete banking services to the general public, business community, State and federal government institutions, civil society organizations etc.

“SME is a world phenomenon. Plight of the poor around the world is increasing and marginalization of the “have nots” is growing, leading to war, conflict, displacement and migration to the west. Loss of life in the process is high. If poor people could have access to finance and be given the opportunity to work close to their vicinity, they  could lift themselves out of poverty. SME finance is one such vehicle and could make a difference in the war affected regions.,” said Dr. Lual Acuek Lual Deng, the Chairman of Buffalo Commercial Bank.

The Forum operates a global membership network of +230 members that brings together financial institutions, technology companies, and development finance institutions to share knowledge, spur innovation, and promote the growth of SMEs.
