Oluwatoyin Alake

Oluwatoyin has over 17 years’ experience in capital markets development, regulation and investment product development.  She is passionate about facilitating the growth of deep and efficient capital markets through transformative initiatives, that acts as catalyst for sustainable economic development in emerging and frontier markets.

She currently leads multiple projects across Asia and Pacific on capital market reforms and development, market infrastructure, sustainable finance and housing market development. She has experience supporting the development of green, social, sustainable and transition capital markets solutions as well as bringing long term finance solutions to address housing market needs especially in the areas of affordable, climate and resilient housing. She is also an advocate for the role of capital markets in unlocking long term finance including debt and equity for small and medium scale enterprises.

Prior to joining the IFC, Oluwatoyin was a Senior Advisor, Long term finance, with Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A), an initiative of the African Development Bank (AFDB). She led programs such as African Institutional Investor Study (commissioned by IFC & AFDB) and the Africa Long Term Finance Initiative (multi-donor initiative). Before this role, Oluwatoyin has been instrumental to capital markets development initiatives whilst working with the Nigerian Stock Exchange, as Head, Secondary Markets. She led policy and regulatory dialogues, product innovation, engagement with domestic and international institutional investors, amongst other things. Oluwatoyin worked on multiple projects including the launch of Federal Government Savings Bond, the first Sovereign Green Bond in Africa, Thematic Exchange Traded Funds and Indices, Onshore listing of Eurobonds. She was an expert in designing liquidity programs and market microstructure, to deepen secondary market liquidity across product segments.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and a Masters’ degree with Distinction in Investments from the University of Birmingham, UK. She also holds a postgraduate Diploma in Capital Markets from the George Washington University, USA and a certificate in Sustainable Finance from the University of Cambridge, UK.  She is a Chartered Fellow of Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI) UK.
