Sathapana Bank Joins 150 Other Financial Institutions to Promote SME Finance

Washington, D.C. April 16, 2019 –  Sathapana Bank became the newest member of the SME Finance Forum, a global membership network that brings together financial institutions, technology companies, and development finance institutions to share knowledge, spur innovation, and promote the growth of SMEs.

“200 million businesses worldwide need financing to invest, grow and create new jobs. We are proud to have Sathapana Bank join our network of 150 members who work to expand access to finance for small and medium businesses,” said Matthew Gamser, CEO of the Forum.

Sathapana Bank was originally established in 1995 as a local NGO. It was transformed in 2000 into a microfinance institution and obtained MFI license in 2003 from the National Bank of Cambodia (“NBC”), and latter in 2009, became a first Microfinance Deposit Talking Institution (MDI) in Cambodia that was granted a deposit taking license by NBC .  

Following the merger between Sathapana Limited and MARUHAN Japan Bank and approval from NBC,  SATHAPANA Bank Plc was established in April 2016. As of today, it is one of the leading commercial banks in Cambodia with total assets of more than USD1.3 billion that provides reliable full banking services by its strong nationwide networks of more than 170 branches, 150 ATMs and over 4,000 staff to serve its customers. It is known as the “People’s Bank” in Cambodia.  Sathapana Bank works to improve people’s businesses and living by providing the best full banking services with advanced technology throughout the country, while contributing to the sustainable development of Cambodia. 

“It is important for us to expand our network to international markets in order to promote small and medium-sized enterprises,” said Mr. Lim Aun , Chief Executive Officer of Sathapana Bank. “Membership with the Forum will provide us with learning opportunities and best practices to improve performance and overall contribution to country development.”
